General
1) What are your hours of operation?
We accept walk-in applications between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 pm on Mondays through Fridays. If you need to contact the office after 12:00 pm, kindly call us at (305)-374-8431
2) How do I get to the Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami?

No parking is available at the Consulate itself. However, several parking garages are available Downtown Miami
4) Do I need to make an appointment in order to renew my passport?
No appointment is necessary.
5) How much does it cost to get documents notarized by the Consul General?
Individual's requesting this service must come in to the Consulate in person
U$10 per signature for legalized documents originating in Jamaica.
U$20 per signature for documents originating in the USA, authenticated by the United States Secretary of State
Additional $10 Admin fee
6) Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash or money orders. No credit cards or debit cards are acceptable. If you are mailing in the application, only money orders are acceptable payable to the Consulate General of Jamaica - Miami.

10) How long does it take to renew/replace my passport?
If you apply in person at the Jamaican Consulate General's office in Miami, Florida, the approximate length of time is 6 weeks. If you mail in the application to the Jamaican Consulate General, the approximate processing time is 90 days providing that your application was filled out completely and you have included all required documents. Please note that if there are errors on your application, this will significantly delay the application process beyond the 90 days.
11) Do you offer a RUSH processing service for passport renewal/replacement?
We do not offer RUSH processing at this time.
12) What documents do I need to bring in order to renew my passport?

- Original birth certificate (NEW FORMAT)

- If you are a married female, original marriage certificate
- If you are divorced female, original final divorce judgment
- If you are a widowed female , husband's death certificate
13) My passport was lost/stolen, how can I order a replacement?
In order to replace a lost / stolen /damaged passport, the following items are needed:
- Completed application form
- Previously cancelled passport (if available)
- Original birth certificate (NEW FORMAT)
- 2 photographs
- U$190 Fee
- If you are married female, original marriage certificate
- If you are divorced female, original final divorce judgment
- A VALID photo identification such as a driver's license or a permanent resident card (a notarized copy if you are mailing in your application)
- If you are a widowed female , husband's death certificate
14) I mailed in my application, how can I check if you received it?
We highly recommend that you mail your applications via UPS, FEDEX or the United States Postal Service Priority Mail service with Delivery Confirmation. This will ensure that your package will be signed for upon delivery to the Jamaican Consulate General. Then you can confirm with the delivery service you used.
No. You may travel on a valid U.S. passport. However, we highly recommend that you renew your Jamaican passport and then travel on that document if you intend to stay for an extended period of time.
17) How can I check the status of my passport application?

18) When will my original documents be returned to me?
All original documents will be returned along with your new passport.
You may apply for a Consular Identity document. The cost is U$10. This document is issued based on an application for a passport, and proof of the immigration appointment. That is YOU MUST first apply for passport then you may apply for the ID.
20) How can I obtain a passport application form?
You can download passport application forms from this Website. You can also request an application by telephone at (305) 374-8431. Please mail us a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like an application mailed to you.
21) Can I pick my passport up at the Consulate General of Jamaica's office?
No. All passport fees include a mandatory mailing fee. Your passport will be mailed to you via United States Postal Service Express Mail. Kindly ensure that an adult is present at the residence in order to sign for the package.
Birth Certificates
22) I do not have my original birth certificate, can I bring in a copy instead?
No. Photocopies are not acceptable.
23) If I do not have my original birth certificate, how can I apply for one?
You may apply for an original birth certificate at www.rgd.gov.jm. These will be in the NEW FORMAT which is issued by Registrar General Department.
Emergency Travel Documents
24) If I need to travel and my passport is still being processed, can I get still travel?
You must first find out if the country to which you are travelling will accept an emergency document issued by the Jamaican consulate. Please bear in mind that you may also need a visa to travel to certain countries even if you have a Green Card.
The following documents are required in order for us to issue you an emergency travel document:
- Completed passport application form (if you have submitted one for the passport already, please complete another one)
- 2 photographs
- Confirmed travel reservation
- Original birth certificate (if you already have a passport application that is being processed by us, please ignore this requirement) and a valid photo ID (driver's license or Green Card)
- U$60 Fee - walk in ( processing time 48 hours)
- U$80 Fee - mail in (please call consulate before applying; processing time is 5 -7 business days.

Yes as long as you have your permanent resident card with you.

Your prospective employer needs to submit an application to the Jamaican Ministry of Labour and Social Security. An approval letter will be issued if the work permit application is successful. For the visa the following is required:
- Approval letter from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security
- Valid passport
- 1 photograph
- Completed visa application form
- Visa fee depends on the type (country) passport you are holding
